In response to “stay-at-home” orders issued by Governor Gavin Newson of California to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, commonly known as COVID-19. Many employers have been asking, even requiring employees to work from home indefinitely.
For you this may at first seem like a dream at first. And then you realize that your kids (should you have any) are also mandated to stay home from school. That also may seem nice at first but for many, it’s adding to a very hectic home/work life. And then… it gets HOT!
Being a Heating and Air Conditioning contractor in Orange County, CA is a funny business. Especially a residential HVAC service and installation contractor. Very few people want our services unless it’s hot. The economy can be booming, and it was before COVID-19 like never before, but even then. People only shop for what they want, when they need it. We’re all guilty of it, myself included.
This topic comes up over and over again for us. Since Command Comfort led the way in 2015 to become Orange Counties number 1 installation and service company for ductless mini-splits, we’ve learned how to address this topic of installing your own ductless system. I hope this short article helps you answer that question.
As air conditioning contractors in Orange County, we are in a market where many homes don’t have air conditioning. Particularly in the beach cities such as Long Beach, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach to name a few. So people in those homes tend to rely on no more than a ceiling fan sometimes to stay cool at night. Will a ceiling fan keep you cool at night vs. air conditioning?
I have long touted the many benefits of ductless mini-split systems. I even had one installed at our old house in Aliso Viejo in for the master bedroom after quickly realizing that the central wasn’t doing a good enough job of cooling the upstairs master bedroom with south facing windows and a hot garage underneath. And it was life changing. But last night solidified why I need to convince my landlords to let Command Comfort install a ductless air conditioner in the master bedroom of our new home.
That’s a good question and of course we are inclined to say yes. But let’s think about it for a moment. There are other alternatives to air conditioning if you don’t need it “cold” in your house. Whole house fans work fine for some, especially those near the coast where it most often cools down at night. Using a whole house fan allows you to inexpensively draw in cool air from outdoors through open windows and doors and expels the hot air in your home into your attic. If properly designed, it will help force the hot air out of your attic as well, further reducing the heat load from above. But here’s the catch. They ONLY work well when it’s cooler outside than it is inside. For many that’s not enough, myself included personally. Also keep in mind that here is So Cal, we have fire season and it’s usually worst when it’s hottest out. Having to pull in the outside air through your home when fires are ranging in the distance (hopefully very far from your home) can obviously be displeasing. But, if you think a whole house fan for your Orange County home is sufficient we can help! It’s a nice alternative or an addition to air conditioning.
You may not be searching for AC repair near me just yet, but the question might be lingering: how do I tell when it’s time to replace my HVAC system? Here’s a collection of common questions.
Houses are like people. They come in many styles, shapes, ages, and sizes, and each one is unique. Yet the traditional ducted HVAC system operates as if the home is a homogenous blob. Whereas in reality every home is a collection of microclimates and microhabitats. Ducted HVAC systems attempt to impose a broad inflexible solution for every home, regardless of the home’s individual characteristics or the needs of its occupants. Such a generic approach inevitably leads to inefficiencies in cost and sub optimum performance, and may even send you searching for ‘air conditioning service near me’ to fix your under-performing unit.
Sometimes, living better entails nothing more than recognizing a problem we might otherwise overlook. And indoor air quality is a problem easily and often overlooked since after all, you generally cannot see it. Nevertheless, indoor air quality plays a central role in the health of every home and workplace.
Providing quality service requires an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and practical competency when it comes to applying that knowledge. At Command Comfort, we have been working since 2008 to establish our reputation for quality installations and top notch maintenance. Our collective experience has exposed us to a wide variety of systems and maintenance issues. From this depth of experience we gained a broad understanding of what does and does not work.
